Young Kayleigh Hattingh was raised in the shadow of Stellenbosch's Bottelary Hills, and when first she experienced two particular dryland vineyards atop an outcrop there, and tasted the grapes, she instantly wanted to make her own wines from them. With the pandemic raging in 2020, the Stellenbosch trained, internationally experienced winemaker seized the day and crafted the first Rebel Rebel wine at Kaapzicht, where she assists, in an area of the cellar dedicated to natural winemaking. 'No alternations or adjustments,' she says of her approach, 'just fluent, honest and transparent expressions of terroir and the varieties.'
