After creating a number of award-winning wines at Nederburg and KWV, Tariro Masayiti has been appointed as Springfontein Wine Estate’s viticulturist and winemaker, taking over from Christo Versfeld, who managed the German-owned property for the past six years.
“We welcome the considerable contribution Tariro brings to the estate in terms of experience and vision,” says Springfontein CEO Jennifer Packard Weber.
Established in 1995, surrounded by 400 hectares of fynbos close to the cool waters of Walker Bay, Springfontein’s 25 ha of vineyards are planted in limestone soils, irrigated by a natural spring.
This maritime terroir is reflected the estate’s handcrafted wines, many rated 4 stars in the 2013 edition of Platter’s Guide. The flagships - the unfiltered single-vineyard Chenin Blanc and Pinotage - can be found on the wine lists of many Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe.
