Last year a core of the Swartland's hippest producers staged a watershed wine festival, Swartland Revolution, to showcase the district's remarkable rise from vinous sidebar to front page news.

The event elicited a wave of verbal high-fives from attendees: "The best wine event that I have ever attended." "Like Woodstock... but without the sex." "World class performance." And "a benchmarking of joie de vivre."

Now the organisers are bent on presenting a bigger and even better Revolution in the town of Riebeek-Kasteel on the weekend of 11–12 November 2011. Just-unveiled highlights include three tastings of benchmark wines:

  • 8 from Platter's five-star awardees Chris and Andrea Mullineux of Mullineux Family Wines
  • 6 from Olivier Clape of Domaine Auguste Clape in the Northern Rhône
  • 9 personal favourites of London-based wine writer Jamie Goode, and two Platter's judges: German sommelier Jörg Pfützner and local wine authority Michael Fridjhon.

Celebrity chef Reuben Riffel and his team will serve "mountains of perfectly prepared meat, salads to stun, and fire-grilled veggies that will impress even the most hard-core carnivores". Saturday lunch will be a local feast by the team at Bar Bar Black Sheep.

The event will conclude with The Swartland Independent Street Party, a public tasting showcasing top local wine producers. At R50 per person, this will be more accessible than last time and, the organisers envisage, draw a whole new crowd as it takes to Riebeek-Kasteel Main Street and revels into the sunset.

Full weekend package (inc all meals and tastings): R1,750 pp

Reuben’s BBQ only: R500 pp

Breakfast and coffee only: R75 pp

Bar Bar Black Sheep festival feast only: R350 pp

Swartland Independent Street Party: R50 pp
