  Most-thumbed Platter's of all time?

Were we to award a prize for Most-Thumbed Platter's Guide Of All Time, British wine-friends Robert James and Philip Lewis surely would win hands down - not just once but several times over!

Since 1996, Robert and Philip (and wife Caroline) have visited South Africa many times, always armed with a copy of the guide, which they've read, annotated and used as a filing system for brochures, price lists and lots of other interesting stuff collected on their cellardoor visits.

We caught up with the London residents in Stellenbosch, the base for their latest explorations, and saw for ourselves why their plenitudinous Platter's are attracting much attention, especially the black-and-gold 2010 edition, which gives new meaning to the term "plus size".

For the remainder of their trip, Robert and Philip are inviting any estates in Stellenbosh, Paarl and Franschoek who would like to see "this historic document [guide 2010], or take the opportunity to be part of the 2016 guide when it returns to the winelands in the next 4, 5 or 6 years" to get in touch. "We're not looking for any monetary compensation," they say, "but the opportunity to taste wines not normally available to the public would be appreciated!" Feel free to leave a message for them below.
