The CWA raised an astounding R7.045 million for at its inaugural 2014 event. This year the Auction Ambassadors have generously donated 34 once-in-a-lifetime, never-to-be-repeated auction lots, including extremely rare local and international wine collections, gourmet dinners with world-renowned chefs, exceptional art pieces, international travel to exotic locations, exclusive private weekend parties, luxury cruises and access to the inner sanctum of the South African wine industry.
All the live auction lots can be viewed here, along with the auction program, news updates and more.
The auction will launch on the evening of Friday 13 February 2015 with the American Express Cape Wine Auction Barrel Tasting & Preview, hosted at the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden in Stellenbosch.
The main lunch-time auction event takes place at Boschendal Estate on Saturday 14 February 2015, and features the redoubtable culinary talents of Peter Tempelhoff, Relais & Châteaux grand chef, and Christiaan Campbell, executive chef at Boschendal Estate. Hand-selected top South African wines will be poured only from large-format bottles and served in Riedel glassware.
Prominent wine aficionados and philanthropists from around the globe will be hosted by the Auction Ambassadors, headed up by the auction’s Honorary Chairs for 2015, John and Erica Platter, founders of Platter’s Guide. Auctioneer Iain Banner will invite guests to dig deep in their pockets to raise significant funds for education in the winelands. All proceeds will be overseen by Strauss & Co fine art auctioneers. Dan Nicholl will be master of ceremonies on the big day.
An online bidding facility, using a sophisticated system from New York, allows anyone in the world to place a bid, in their own currency, in the weeks leading up to the Auction, and then via telephone on the big day. Click here for more information.
