Hot on the heels of announcing the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year winners for 2013, Diners Club released the list of categories to be judged from 2014 until 2020.

The competition is kept current and vibrant through the variety of chosen categories. These are planned in advance to give producers and winemakers the opportunity to plan the relevant wines that they wish to submit in each of the categories.

“It is vital to allow the winemakers adequate time to plan and craft the wines that they want to enter. We want to ensure that they have all the necessary time in which to produce a competition wine,” says Diners Club South Africa managing director Ebrahim Matthews.

The categories are as follows:

2014: Dry White Wine Blends

2015: Non-Bordeaux Single Varietal Red Wines (excluding shiraz)

2016: Chenin Blanc

2017: Pinotage

2018: Chardonnay

2019: Pinot Noir

2020: Mèthode Cap Classique

The Diners Club Young Winemaker award alternates each year, with the category for 2014 as red wines and 2015 as white wines.
