Coinciding with Africa Day, the third annual Tops at Spar Gugulethu Wine Festival will be a “beautiful, safe and amazing experience”, the organisers promise.

Staged on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May, the event aims to create wine awareness and provide wine education for the broader consumer markets in the Western Cape while expanding the wine consumer base for wineries and enabling producers to meet their customers.

Mzoli Ngcawuzele, festival co-founder and owner of Mzoli’s Place in Gugulethu, says: “We look forward to this festival and invite all our Cape Town suburbs to come and learn something about our heritage wines and each other. This festival is truly a mixture of colours and cultures, all with something in common pulling us together. It is our love of wine and its ability to make us see what is important in life.”

Mark Robinson, Tops at Spar group liquor manager, comments: "Our motivation in business is broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others. Therefore a home-grown festival like this, which encourages sustainable entrepreneurship, is close to home. We are really looking forward to meeting our customers and friends at the festival too.”

Lucindi Branfield, SA brand manager for JC le Roux, says the sparkling wine producer again will host an upmarket lounge area, and offer a selection of méthode cap classique and sparkling wines, from popular favourite Le Domaine to prestige cuvée Scintilla. There will be prizes to be won and bubbly-and-nougat tastings on offer, as well as the opportunity to have your picture taken at the JC le Roux stand. Cellarmaster Elunda Basson will be available to chat to JC le Roux aficionados.

MasterChef South Africa judge Pete Goffe-Wood will co-present the Nederburg Taste Theatre, described as "a journey of flavours", with Nederburg winemaker Wilhelm Pienaar. Their joint appearance comes just a few weeks before the 11 June start to the second season of MasterChef South Africa, which once again stars Goffe-Wood with fellow judges Benny Masekwameng and Andrew Atkinson.

Get tickets from Webtickets or at the door on the night, and more information from the festival website.
