Winery of the Week: Ronnie B Wines

Following on from a debut chenin/steen, launched in a blaze of glory last edition (as ‘Patatsfontein’), Boschkloof’s youngblood winemaker Reenen Borman in partnership with Montagu growers Fritz Schoon and Henk Kotze rescued an old colombard vineyard adjoining the chenin, and Patatsblanc was born. The second new wine, a syrah/shiraz, is from Stellenbosch and has the intriguing name Sons of Sugarland. The back label carries a poignant, convincing account of three war buddies - but is entirely fabricated, except that the trio is loosely modelled on Reenen and partners, and Sugar Land does exist - in Texas!
