For multiple Platter's five star laureate Colmant Cap Classique & Champagne, 2012 harvest kicked off on Friday 13th, a date considered especially auspicious by some, giving already upbeat owners Jean-Philippe and Isabelle Colmant another reason to believe 2012 will be an exceptional year.

The first intake of grapes was 10 tons of "beautiful chardonnay", harvested in Robertson and pressed over the weekend. The quality is highly promising, say the Colmants, and they expect the next picking will be by the end of this week - pinot noir, also from Robertson.

Considering the current high temperatures, they expect their other batches from Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Elgin to follow very quickly thereafter.

Many family members and friends gathered around the cellar to help and celebrate the season's first pressing.  "Great fun as you can imagine, but don't worry, the winemaker stayed sober, fully onto his mission!"
