Introducing Platter's tasters: Joanne Gibson
Topics:
Newly graduated and covering local politics for a community newspaper, Joanne Gibson was invited to the Gauteng launch of Springfield Estate. After hearing co-owner Abrie Bruwer wax lyrical about his soils, his vines, his family heritage, she was hooked on everything that goes into a good bottle of wine.
She left Johannesburg for Cape Town, politics for wine, and received her Level 4 Diploma from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in 2003 while working for Harpers Wine & Spirit in London.
Named South African Wine Writer of the Year in 2009 and 2015, and shortlisted in the 2010, 2012 and 2013 Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards, the multitasking mother of two is a wine columnist, freelance contributor to numerous wine publications and, latterly, an associate editor of Platter's Guide.
